The Decadents Magazine was started in July, 2020, with a group of writers, editors and designers who volunteered to put their heads together and create something during the lockdown period. We decided to target the Instagram audience, so the first thing we did was to set up an Instagram page. It is now a team comprising 45 members. What sets The Decadents Magazine apart is that it mainly focuses on the analysis of pop culture. One of our first successful articles was an analysis of the song ‘Oh! Womaniya’ from Gangs of Wasseypur. The lyricist of that song, Varun Grover commented on our post and we were thrilled.
Since then, we have attempted to analyze pop culture through a socio-political lens. We also write on international disputes and about issues of social relevance closer home. Our agenda is to provide a platform for people our age to be able to speak freely about what they consider important. We recently put up a video analyzing the Bengal elections, and we are on our way to work on a Science-Arts Collaboration with Cogi To - the science magazine of IISER Kolkata.
